About you
My decade of teaching experience in teaching Filipino involves both locals as their national language and to foreign students as a second language or foreign language. My work has allowed me to speak and train individuals in various seminars, workshops, and tutorial programs. I have facilitated and have grown my ability in helping students reach their fullest potential with meeting them at eye level. While on a broader scale, I have worked together with teams of fellow educators to develop classroom management; contributing to the progression of language programs and curriculum of various institutions that I have partnered with. One that I recently worked with as a Language Cross-Cultural Facilitator is Peace Corps Philippines. Here, I was responsible for daily planning, implementation, and evaluation of the language components of the Pre-Service Training phase of our diverse group of American volunteers. As an LCF, I also provided opportunities for integrating cross-cultural and community development skills. I also have enjoyed my time working with Transparent Language, a leading American company that offers different language services to different institution and organization including the U.S. Department of Defense. As a Linguistic Specialist on the Tagalog team, I was able to develop my skills in creating lesson guides for an ILR 0-2 curriculum and served as a lesson writer and voice talent. I would consider that my experience in teaching Filipino as a foreign language in Xi’an International Studies University in Shaanxi Province, China was one of the highlights of my career as an advocate of Filipino language. I had the most amazing opportunity to redesign as I see fit and implement the first Filipino Language Program of the university under the Southeast Asian and African Studies program. I designed most of the course’s syllabi and have advised students in their research paper. I have worked on evaluation and improvement of the Filipino language curriculum that was patterned to other language programs of the university. I have developed instructional and learning materials, collaborate with other university language instructors, made my own materials for listening activities, planned, and implemented various language events and culminating activities. I have a strong passion to educate young minds and help them blossom into well-rounded, responsible, and successful individuals. I have had wonderful opportunities to teach diverse groups of students, including those with learning disabilities, those who performed at grade level and those who were exceptional. As a result, I have become proficient at designing creative and stimulating lesson plans, which bring a hands-on approach to learning, and keep students interested and focused. I welcome the communicative approach and constructivist approach to teaching and learning this beautiful language. I promote collaboration, and not competition among students. The notion of collaboration and active learning are center to my philosophy of language learning. As a language educator, I ensure that my lessons are student-centered and integrates real world situations, emphasizing on everyday decision-making, self-reflection, and building interpersonal relationships in a meaningful context that will prepare them for daily and professional experiences.
